Video Interviews: What to expect
For a lot of people, doing a testimonial video can seem like a bit of a daunting task, so I wanted to share a few pieces of advice to make sure you’re feeling confident and prepared for your interview.
We will conduct the interview slightly off camera, so you will be looking at a person, not the camera directly. For this reason it’s important that you keep your eye contact in the direction of the person interviewing you and avoid looking at the camera.
When saying your answers make sure to respond in full sentences, and to end your sentences with the tone of a full stop to indicate it’s the end. For example a common mistake is ending a statement like this:
“We’ve had the business for close to 5 years now and it’s been amazing to watch it grow from our garage to our warehouse...and...yeah!”
In the editing process it’s quite hard to make a cut at the end of that line when it doesn’t end with a defined full stop. This is how it should sound:
“We’ve had the business for close to 5 years now and it’s been amazing to watch it grow from our garage to our warehouse.”
Saying it like this also makes you sound more professional.
Our team will guide you on the day and may ask you certain questions again in order to get the best take possible.
You’ll be given the questions prior to the day so take this time to jot down some answers to those questions, but on the day don’t feel as though you have to say them word for word, too often people get in their head about giving the “perfect” answer, simply use them as a guide.
Mistakes are a very normal part of the the filming process. You might fumble over your words, say the wrong thing, or you might want to re-do your answer. We’ll be recording with 2 cameras so it makes it a lot easier for us to cut up and remove any mistakes whilst keeping the video engaging.
Unless the client has told you specifically what to wear, dress in something comfortable. The only request we have is that you avoid stripes or anything with a strong pattern, as this can become warped on camera.
Where possible, name drop the businesses or company in your responses. I want you to imagine we are going to share 1 responses as it’s own video, it needs to have context and be understood easily by the viewer.
It’s normal to feel nervous when you’re talking on camera however our team are here to help guide you on the day and do everything we can to make you feel as comfortable as possible.
