Teleprompter guidelines.
The great thing about using a teleprompter is that you don’t need to memorise your script since you’re reading directly from the teleprompter. Having said this, it’s crucial to read over your script at least 5 times to ensure fewer mistakes are made while filming. If there are too many mistakes on the day, this can result in a longer than expected filming time and consequent editing time which may affect the cost of your project.
Using a Teleprompter is a lot easier than you might think and in the past many of our clients have used one with no prior experience or knowledge.
After you’ve read over the script and know it well, the next thing to do is to go over it 2 more times but this time in the tone of voice you will use on the day of filming. Simply reading the script in a monotone “reading” voice may not convey your message. Instead, think about the emotion you’re trying to convey and decide whether your tone of voice should be more animated, conversational or even have pauses. We can add these pauses as line breaks in your script.
For things to come across on camera well they typically need to be over emphasised. To come across more friendly it is important to remember to smile when you are reading.
If you are not used to being in front of a camera, it’s highly recommended that you film yourself just on your phone while reading the script in order to get comfortable in a filming situation. You will have absolutely nothing to worry about on the day as our team are here to guide you through every step of the way. That being said though, if you do have any questions or concerns feel free to reach out to us at any time.
PLEASE NOTE:
Please share each script as an individual word document so we can upload it onto the teleprompter app with ease.
HOW A TELEPROMPTER WORKS:
The teleprompter is set up in front of the camera so that when you read your script it looks like you’re talking directly to the camera. It has a clear reflective glass so that you can read your script which is mirrored from an app on our iPad. Your script will be pre loaded to the app prior to filming to make the process a lot quicker.
Once everything is set up and ready to go we will do a couple of test runs just to gauge the speed at which you would like the script to scroll.
We recommend that you rehearse your script several times so that a clean take of the entire script can be filmed without any mistakes. Having said this, we don’t expect you to be perfect and if you do make mistakes we can always scroll up to the start of that particular section to re film it.
One thing you will need to ensure is that if you want to have pauses in your script, there will need to be line breaks for those pauses. This makes the video look a lot cleaner. Please be sure to include those in your script.
